Overview

This qualification reflects the role of builders, site managers and managers of small to medium-sized building businesses who apply knowledge of structural principles, codes, standards and legal requirements to Class 1 and 10, to a maximum of two storeys and Class 2 to 9 Type C constructions, and who plan and supervise safe building and construction work, prepare and administer contracts, and who apply quality principles to building and construction projects.

Building relates to construction and Site Management is about managing the factors around construction, such as the deployment of crews with specialised skills (including builders), product compliance, deployment of contract specialised skills, weather and site location.

Occupational titles depending on packaging options selected may include:

  • Builder
  • Construction Supervisor
  • Site Manager
  • Site Supervisor
  • Leading Hand

The qualification is designed to enable two specialised occupational outcome pathways depending on elective options which will be reflected as:

  • Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building) or
  • Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Site Management)

Completion of the general construction induction training program specified by the model Code of Practice for Construction Work is required for any person who is to carry out construction work. Achievement of unit CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement.

Builder and Site Supervisor licensing varies across States and Territories and requirements additional to the attainment of this qualification may be required.

    1. Applicants must be minimum 18 years of age at the time of applying for admission.
    2. Satisfactory completion of Australian Year 12 or equivalent level of study (in Australian or in applicant’s home country)
    3. ENGLISH Proficiency:
      1. Minimum English level of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent; or
      2. IELTS band score of 5.0 and satisfactory completion of an Upper Intermediate ELICOS or EAL/EAP program of 10 weeks or up to 20 weeks; or
      3. Successful completion of a 5-year education/study in a English speaking country such as Australia, USA, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa or United Kingdom; or
      4. If you originate from a country that is *exempt from meeting the English Language requirements set by the DHA, successful completion of Tr4in Right’s Language, Literacy and Numeracy Test (LLN); or
      5. Within 2 years of application date, successful completion in Australia of:
        • a foundation course; or
        • a Senior Secondary Certificate of Education; or
        • a substantial part (at least 70%) of a Certificate IV or higher level qualification, from the Australian Qualifications Framework (refer to www.aqf.edu.au/)
      6. Or any other form which satisfies the institution during the pre-enrolment interview.

    4. Prior to enrolment, completion of a Pre-training interview is required; and to ensure that you have the necessary English Proficiency levels to meet the course requirements, you are required to undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Test. If you have any learning difficulties, you are encouraged to have a confidential discussion with our Student Support team prior to course commencement or enrolment or during your orientation to determine the required support service and whether this is available or not.
    5. Basic digital literacy (ability to use digital technologies to access information via internet and use of MS Office applications (Word, Excel and Power Point).
    6. Access to own PC/laptop with internet throughout the duration of the course.  If this is not possible, you may access nearby public facilities or use the institute’s PC lab, provided there are no class activities.
In addition to all the software, equipment and personal protective gear and uniforms (if applicable) you need for your course, you are required to have access to the following for the duration of your studies:
  • PC or laptop 
  • Reliable internet connection 
  • Browser application (e.g. Google Chrome)
  • Pair of headphones
  • Access to Microsoft Office suite, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Access to Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player.  

All students will have access to WIFI at Tr4in Right’s campus, however access to computers is limited and on a first-in- first-served basis. 

Assessment may be both formative and summative and may include a combination of projects, assignments, written assessments, role plays, case studies and simulated workplace activities. 

On successful completion of this qualification, students may undertake a range of Diploma level qualifications within the CPC Training Package or other Training Packages or under-graduate qualifications. 

Examples of occupational titles after successful completion of the qualification may include:

Students may exit from the program at any point and be awarded a Statement of Attainment for any completed unit of competency
