Overview

This qualification reflects the role of building professionals who apply knowledge of structural principles, risk and financial management, estimating, preparing and administering building and construction contracts, selecting contractors, overseeing the work and its quality and managing construction work in building projects including residential and commercial with the following limitations:

  • Residential construction limited to National Construction Code Class 1 and 10 buildings to a maximum of 3 storeys.
  • Commercial construction limited to National Construction Code Class 2 to 9 buildings, Type C and B construction.

Occupational titles may include:

  • Builder
  • General Foreperson
  • Building Inspector

The construction industry strongly affirms that training and assessment leading to recognition of skills must be undertaken in a real or very closely simulated workplace environment. To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have access to a live building and construction workplace to meet the requirements detailed in the Assessment Requirements of core unit CPCCBC4008 Supervise communication and administration processes for building and construction projects.

Completion of the general construction induction training program specified by the model Code of Practice for Construction Work is required for any person who is to carry out construction work. Achievement of unit CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement.

Builder licensing varies across States and Territories and requirements additional to the attainment of this qualification may be required.

  1. Applicants must be minimum 18 years of age at the time of applying for admission.
  2. Satisfactory completion of Australian Year 12 or equivalent level of study (in Australian or in applicant’s home country)
  3. ENGLISH Proficiency:
    1. Minimum English level of IELTS 5.5 or equivalent; or
    2. IELTS band score of 5.0 and satisfactory completion of an Upper
    3. Intermediate ELICOS or EAL/EAP program of 10 weeks or up to 20 weeks; or
    4. Successful completion of a 5-year education/study in a English speaking country such as Australia, USA, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa or United Kingdom; or
    5. If you originate from a country that is *exempt from meeting the English Language requirements set by the DHA, successful completion of Tr4in Right’s Language, Literacy and Numeracy Test (LLN); or
    6. Within 2 years of application date, successful completion in Australia of:
      • a foundation course; or
      • a Senior Secondary Certificate of Education; or
      • a substantial part (at least 70%) of a Certificate IV or higher level qualification, from the Australian Qualifications Framework (refer to www.aqf.edu.au/)
    7. Or any other form which satisfies the institution during the pre-enrolment interview.
  4. *For more information on exemption from meeting the English Language requirements (student visa assessment levels), refer to the Dept. of Home Affairs (www.homeaffairs.gov.au)
  5. Prior to enrolment of commencement of training, completion of a Pre-training interview and to ensure that you have the necessary English Proficiency levels to meet the course requirements, you are required to undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Test.
    If you have any learning difficulties, you are encouraged to have a confidential discussion with our Student Support team prior to course commencement or enrolment or during your orientation.
  6. Basic digital literacy (to use digital technologies to access information via internet and use of MS Office applications (Word, Excel and Power Point).
  7. Access to own PC/laptop with internet to throughout the duration of the course. If this is not possible, students may access nearby public facilities or use the institute’s PC lab, provided there are no class activities.
In addition to all the software, equipment and personal protective gear and uniforms (if applicable) you need for your course, you are required to have access to the following for the duration of your studies:
  • PC or laptop 
  • Reliable internet connection 
  • Browser application (e.g. Google Chrome)
  • Pair of headphones
  • Access to Microsoft Office suite, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Access to Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player.  

All students will have access to WIFI at Tr4in Right’s campus, however access to computers is limited and on a first-in- first-served basis. 

Assessment may be both formative and summative and may include a combination of projects, assignments, written assessments, role plays, case studies and simulated workplace activities. 

On successful completion of this qualification, students may undertake a range of other Advanced Diploma level qualifications within the CPC Training Package or other Training Packages or under-graduate qualifications.  This qualification may support your application to become a Registered Builder with the Victorian Building Authority, depending on your industry experience.  Please note that Tr4in Right does not guarantee a license outcome.

Examples of occupational titles for students on successful completion of the qualification may include: Builder, Construction Manager or Site Manager.

Students may exit from the program at any point and be awarded a Statement of Attainment for any completed unit of competency
