Student Visa Obligations

The following obligations are conditions on your student visa which must be adhered to:

Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)

International students are required by the Australian Government to join a private health insurance scheme.

You will need to pay the OSHC premium for the duration of your course at the same time as the tuition fees as OSHC must be paid before a student visa is issued. The OSHC entitles you to free hospital cover and 85% of standard doctor’s fees.

Full Time Study

Australian law requires International students to  maintain a full time study load. A full-time study load is normally a minimum of 20 hours per week of face to face study time

Attendance

As an International student you are required to maintain a minimum of 80% attendance at classes. If your attendance drops below 80% the Institute is required to contact you to discuss what issues are preventing you from attending classes and remind you of your obligation to ensure you attend 80%. Continued unsatisfactory attendance may result in a report to Department of Home Affairs will may lead to the cancellation of your student visa. Refer to the Attendance Policy available at Downloads (should lead to the policy)

Academic Progress for VET Courses

As an International student you are required to maintain satisfactory academic progress – meaning passing a minimum of 50% of the units studied in two consecutive terms. Unsatisfactory academic progress is defined in the ESOS legislation as failing more than 50% of units in any two consecutive study periods: a study period is one term of the academic year. The academic year consists of a total of four terms (this may differ depending on the course). A failure in more than 50% of units in one study period will trigger a review of academic progress by the Institute and the implementation of an intervention strategy. Failing a unit means being assessed as “Not Yet Competent” for a completed unit. For more details, refer to the Course Progress policy at Downloads (should lead to the policy)

Furthermore, students are required to provide their Australian contact details to Tr4in Right upon request and understands that this request will be made at least once every academic term whilst the applicant is enrolled in a course at Tr4in Right.
